Now that my apartment is starting to look more organized thanks to some of my clutter-free projects, I'm trying to focus on decorating. Specifically, I want to get some more wall art into my space. The major dilemma being that wall art is pretty damn expensive. I spend a lot of time looking at really cool items that I definitely can't afford, but the good news is they usually inspire me to create some of my own. Below are different DIY wall art ideas I've found on Pinterest or come up with based on things I want but can't afford.
This is a cool idea that I found on Pinterest via alittlecraftinyourday.com. Get a large peice of white oak tag and some fake flowers. Glue the flowers to the oak tag and then spray paint them a color of your choice (I love the white above or gold would be cool). Then pop it in a shadow box and hang. So easy and beautiful!
I love framed map prints and my boyfriend and I thought it would be cool to get one from NJ (my home state) and one from NY (his) to hang in the apartment. I looked around at some options but they're pretty expensive so I had the idea to just make one myself. There are a ton of cool map images on google so I'm going to choose two that compliment each other and then put them in matted frames. I'll post the finished product as soon as I'm done!
As a kid I loved making collages for my wall, so this Pinterest find really appealed to me. Simply take a sillhoute of a shape you love (hedgehog perhaps? Kidding! Kind of.) and fill it with magazine and newspaper cutouts to add some interesting texture and color. See the full tutorial here.
A super easy way to create some large scale pieces for your walls is to use wood or cardboard and cover it in a pretty fabric like the one above. Grab some Modge Podge or hot glue to adhere the fabric to your surface of choice, let dry and hang. It'll create an instant focal point in any room. Picture courtesy of mobileliving.org.
I'm really excited to work on a few of these for my own walls in the next couple weeks and I'll be sure to share them with you once I do. If you've got any creative ideas on how to decorate your wall space leave them in the comments!
