Happy humpday! As promised I dug up some pictures of the centerpieces I did for Thanksgiving last year. I love the look of cranberries in fall decor and these went perfectly with the pretty mums I bought. If you have table decor ideas let me know in the comments! I'm still looking for inspo for this year's table.
One of my contributions to Thanksgiving every year is the table centerpiece. Though my cooking skills are improving I've never been much good in the kitchen so I usually stick to the decor. I'm brainstorming ideas for this year's look and thought I'd share my favorite ideas below. I'll be sure to share my final product once it's complete!
Halloween week continues! We're getting down to the last couple of days here so if you don't have a costume yet you should probably get on it. If you don't have the time or money to get something elaborate done in the next few days, don't worry! I've compiled some quick and cheap costumes that you can do in a bind. Regina George from Mean GirlsCut holes in a white tank and wear a colored bra. Literally couldn't be easier. Beanie BabiesPut a new twist on your animal ears (I know you all have them) and add a big TY tag. Great for a group costume. Candy RappersI LOL'd at this one. Stick some candy to a hoodie and you're ready to go. Plus you'll have easy access to snacks all night. Strawberry and PineappleThis one will require a little more effort but it's still easy enough to get done in a day or two. ScarecrowThis one is all about the makeup so as long as you have a
flannel shirt and a pair of jeans you can pull it off. Lets be honest the entire reason any of us participate in Halloween is to get the treats. The candy, desserts and delicious drinks are the best part of the holiday. I could really use some of those treats to help me deal with this current hangover but I don't think that's happening so instead I'l live vicariously through these clever treats. Apparently Halloween snacks don't even have to be bad for you. But really they're so much better when they are. Go ahead, melt a marshmallow on a brownie. Or show off a gingerbread man's insides. Bring back a childhood classic with a Halloween twist. Or hide a lollipop with some spooky tissue.
You really can't go wrong with Halloween themed snacks. Happy Friday! We're about a week away from Halloween so I've been busy getting my costumes and Halloween treats in order. It's tradition in my office to share small gifts with the ladies I work with for each holiday. This year I've decided to keep it simple and give each of them a bottle of wine - but with a Halloween twist. Check out the idea below as well as the printable gift tags I made in case you want to make one of your own. Mummify a wine bottle! Remove the label, layer on some athletic tape and add a pair of googly eyes. Tie one of the printable tags below to the bottle with some ribbon and you're good to go!
Honestly, TG it's Friday because I have a vicious hangover due to the happiness that ensued after the Mets won game 5 over the Dodgers last night. It was a great time, but I'm paying for it now. Luckily I have a pretty easy Friday night plan - scary movies and pumpkin decorating with AJ and a few of our friends. I'm not a huge fan of the pumpkin carving struggle and the faces I make never come out as planned so I searched the web for some easy carving hacks and found the good ideas below. Skip carving a face altogether by cutting off the top and adding felt gloves and googly eyes. Don't do any heavy lifting: carve a baby pumpkin. Cut out a mouth and add teeth for adorably sinister looking pumpkins. Simplify the process by hitting a cookie cutter through the pumpkin. Another simple method - use a drill to turn your pumpkin into a disco ball.
It's Monday and I'm completely exhausted from a fun and too expensive weekend going out with my friends. Now it's back to reality but the good news is now that we've hit October reality gets more fun for the next couple months. October kicks off the holiday season in my book, it's full of delicious food, cozy nights at home and lots of time spent with family and friends. I like to go full force into each holiday and I've already started on Halloween. First up - get your place decorated! I definitely lean towards a more Pottery Barn-ish, less scary version of Halloween decorations and due to budget constraints they must be done in DIY style. Below are some of the best ways to add a little Halloween cheer to your home without spending much money. I'm a big fan of dressing up pumpkins. Wrap some tulle or lace around one to give a chic Halloween look. The same idea works with votive candles too. Keep things simple by filling an apothecary jar with Halloween trinkets. How pretty are these doily "webs"? Add to a frame and throw in a spider for good measure Spray paint some twigs black, and add some black tulle for a super easy and creepy centerpiece One trick I definitely plan on trying this year - paint a pumpkin
white and then write on it with black sharpie. So pretty! So I've recently started re-watching Bravo's Flipping Out with Jeff Lewis from season one since I found out it was available on Hulu. Needless to say I've been dreaming of flipping my own houses and making millions just like Jeff. However, since I have zero funds to start with and no idea about how to actually re-do a house, I thought I would start smaller. Like in my apartment. With one piece of furniture. My own goal is to make my own kitchen island that I can wheel near my very small kitchen and keep in the much larger dining space when I'm not using it. That project is a to-be-continued for now but below are some of my favorite inexpensive and easy furniture flips for you to try at home. See how the blogger at Not So Newlyweds turned this ugly boring table into this gorgeous one. One of the most literal flips I've seen: turn a book shelf on it's side to turn it into a storage bench. Featured on Listotic.com Sometimes all you need is a little refresh with some paint and wallpaper, like this bookshelf from Redoux. Want to go super simple? Spray paint a cheap medal waste basket and flip it upside down for a night table. See the original here. Spray paint and picture frames turned this gross
filing cabinet into a beautiful one. Original post here. Well, here we are again, back to Monday. I'm feeling good about this week and I want to make it a productive one. I got a good start yesterday by prepping meals for the week ahead, decorating my apartment for fall and cleaning my jewelry. I'd been putting off cleaning for a long time but I was on a roll yesterday so I finally tried a DIY cleaner I found on Pinterest (because where else would I find such a thing?). It was so simple and only took like 15 minutes. What you'll need:1 tbsp baking soda 1 tbsp dish soap 1 tbsp salt 1 cup water Aluminum foil A small bowl Dirty jewelry Line the bottom of the bowl with aluminum foil and add dry ingredients. Then add cup of water. Your mixture should cause a chemical reaction and the water should bubble up. Drop in your jewelry and set a timer for 10 minutes. When the timer is up remove your jewelry and scrub with an old toothbrush. Let dry and then watch it shine! Super easy and you end up with fresh accessories at little to no cost. My kind of DIY.
Well apparently mother nature is taking the fact that fall officially starts this week very seriously, because I actually needed to break out a jacket this morning. NYC is supposed to stay seasonably chilly this week and I have to admit, I'm a little excited about it. Football is in full swing, I had my first PSL over the weekend and a bunch of shows are starting and returning this week. To me that means we've officially hit the season. That being said, I need to take my flip flop door hanger down and start getting my apartment ready for autumn. I won't put up anything Halloween related for a couple more weeks but I plan on filling my apartment with candles, warm colors and maybe some pine cones for the next few months. Below are some of the best fall decorating ideas on a budget that I found during my planning. Stay tuned to see how my apartment turns out! Add something seasonable, like popcorn kernels to a candle holder. Original post here. Burlap table runners are pretty and a super easy way to bring fall into the house. Original here. Spray paint pumpkins for a chic transition to autumn decor. Original here. Buy or create your own fall printable. Get the one above here. Keep it really simple - just fill a jar with fall related items. (you can probably do this
for free with stuff from outside and an empty jar from your house). Original post here. |
