My favorite part of my day job is the event planning I get to do for our company. Since I work for a media company that has a lot of business in movies, awards season is big for us. Every year we throw an Oscar party on the Friday before the big event in our office. We try to keep the event fresh every year so we're always coming up with new details to incorporate into our party. I've gathered some of my favorites below in case you and your friends want to throw a glitzy bash this weekend.
Photobooth
Every fun event I've been to this past year has incorporated a photobooth. They're super easy to make yourself and it gives everyone a good excuse to take lots of pictures for Instagram. Get on Amazon to order some fun props (the ones above are from our Oscar party last year). Then make your own background using wrapping paper and a banner or a black sheet and star cutouts like the one below. Not feeling too creative? Buy a simple sparkly background like this one for only $7 (I love Amazon and Prime will get it to you by Saturday!). Add a sign telling your guests what to hashtag for Instagram and you'll have everyone's pictures together at the end of the night!

The employees in our office tend to be on the competitive side so we always try to add some games to our events. One of the crowd favorites is always Movie Trivia which one of the move fanatics in our office makes for us every year. If you don't have any movie buffs willing to make a personalized trivia you can print out a bunch of different kinds here.
This year we added a new game to the mix. We asked 10 different employees to tell us their favorite movies. Then we made up a sheet asking guests to match the employee to their favorite movie. To do a version of this, ask your friends to write their name and their favorite movie on a slip of paper when they walk in. Once everyone has arrived write the movies out on a piece of poster board and have your friends guess which movie belongs to which guest.
If you really want to go all out ask your friends to come dressed as their favorite Oscar nominee from this year or year's past. Have everyone vote for their favorite costume (maybe add categories like most creative, best dressed or best homemade) then announce the winner(s) at the end of the night!
Obviously, you'll need some prizes for your winners. At the office we usually give our winners movie gift certificates. This year I designed envelopes for each to make the prizes look a little more "Oscar worthy".

I added the downloadable printable below so you can dress up your own prizes. If you're short on funds you can give your friends something a little more cost effective like a homemade plaque or trophy declaring them a winner. You can even print out some empty envelopes and put the winners name inside for a big dramatic reveal at the end of the night.
Hopefully I gave you some ideas to throw a fun Oscar worthy party of your own. Whatever you do just don't forget the sparkles, red carpet and champagne! If you have any party ideas of your own add them in the comments section. I love fresh creativity!
