Today's post is going to be a little different. I want to share an interview that was posted on LaurenConrad.com about The Kind Campaign. The Kind Campaign was started by Lauren Paul and Molly Thompson. You may have heard of Lauren and The Kind Campaign if you're a fan of the show Breaking Bad, Lauren is married to one of the stars of the show Aaron Paul. Aaron has used his platform to support his wife and promote the campaign.
If you haven't heard of it, The Kind Campaign is a non-profit organization that brings awareness to girl-on-girl bullying in middle and high school's. The ladies started the non-profit after they did a documentary on bullying in schools.
This is a subject that hits close to home for me. For one, I was a middle and high school girl and I know how crappy other girls can be. To be honest, sometimes I still feel like I'm dealing with girls who act like that as an adult. But even more than that I have a 17-year-old sister who has had a rough high school career because of what other girls have said about her. I can't imagine having to deal with bullying these days considering the social media aspect of it. Now young girls don't even get a break from the hateful gossip and name calling when they go home - it's still being tweeted to them after school hours.
I think the campaign is an admirable one and I'm glad someone has taken the initiative to shed some light on this topic because it's one that seems so often accepted as just "what girls do". That's not okay. Young girls need to be taught to support each other, not tear each other down and this is one big step in teaching them to do that.
